Hi Vince,

Billions of blistering barnacles! That's not how I see it buddy. Capabilities change, equipment changes - the world changes and even this site changes (ha! not discernible yet!)! but recruiting has changed and has moved away from its traditional base IMO. My view is we need to reconnect with this rich vein of recruits (diversity etc) available say in Lancashire. The military simply reflects today's society because it is from that society the military recruit. Recruiting therefore is based on individual unit establishments (manpower ceiling) you either equip the man (infantry say) or woman or man the equipment (a crew etc.) The clever bit is establishing skill-sets to fulfil the tasks identified. Would you employ a non-spec as a drone operator? Better still employ a trainee potential pilot for the large drones perhaps! You need all manpower types to meet the many roles the military offer and that is where my argument converages with yours Vince! You need someone capable of using a bayonet at some time in warfare!. A good debate but unlikely to shift MoD opinion me thinks! Les
