Observations of Random Drunk

Who: Random Drunk Guy
What: Asked for Help
When: 12:30am
Where: Front door of my home/The Underground Eye
Why: ? To be determined

There I was, a notebook in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, trying to enjoy a quiet evening when the frantic knocking began. Alright, so maybe looking through my notes on my parents disappearance for the millionth time doesn't equate to a quiet evening, but close enough. A quick look towards the clock showed that it was a quarter past nine. I slipped off the couch and crept towards the window, tugging back the curtain just far enough to see the rough shape of a man on my doorstep. "Interesting." I muttered softly beneath my breath.

The gentle padding of small feet upon the carpeted floor alerted me to the fact that Hiroki had awoken from his long nap. Minori. What are you doing? I pointed my finger towards the door where the knocking continued.

You look ridiculous crouching on the floor like that, with your head halfway underneath the curtain. His matter of fact tone brushed my mind as he curled up on my vacant spot upon the couch. I narrowed my eyes slightly at him before surrendering to the fact that he was right. Fine, fine. Spoilsport. Shouldn't you be worried for my safety or something?

Minori. I am always concerned for you, but when has that ever stopped you from being reckless? He gave me a pointed stare as he batted my notepad and pen off the couch and in my direction.

A grin crossed my face as I moved to stand up from my crouched position. Never, but you love me anyways. I shot back at him as I grabbed the pen and notepad from off the floor.

I made my way to the door slowly, trying to quiet the small hint of excitement that bubbled up within me.

If someone was at my door they were either a) here because they saw my paper, b) here because they were lost, or c) here to try and murder me. Although I hoped for the first, I knew that any of them could make for a good story (at long as I survived at least).

"Coming!Just so you know, I have a pen and I know how to use it!" I called out as my hand moved to open up the door. As long as I had used something of a threat, maybe option c would be less likely to be true.

I pulled open the door, pen ready in hand, to find the man wobbling on his feet, his eyes slowly beginning to glaze over. Before I had even managed to get out another word, he managed a partial sentence and pitched forward. I backed up just a bit and put my arms out to catch him before his face met the carpet. I helped him down gently to the ground, managed to just drag him enough inside that I could close the door behind him.

I tossed a glance towards Hiroki, his gaze hardened slightly as he looked back at me. Did you....did you just drag a random passed out stranger INTO our home?

Nope! I dragged a random passed out stranger who ASKED FOR HELP into our home.

*****

It's not every day that you find yourself in situations like the one I now found myself in. First, I needed to make sure the man who was laying on my floor was alright. Second, I needed to know what he wanted and what kind of help he was looking for. Third, I needed Hiroki to stop glaring at me every five seconds.

I turned to the man on the floor and gently placed the cool, damp cloth upon his forehead. A glass of cold water sat on the end table, ready for when he would wake up from what I could only assume then was a drunk stupor. "Feel free to wake up at anytime, random man. I can't help you if I don't know what you need!" I sighed lightly as I looked back to the clock. It was now 9:45pm and I hoped that whatever he needed help with, we wouldn't be too late.
