Is this data on Watch and Wager before and after the game starts-e.g. do you see bets made on each tri combo?
No. It turns out you can't even get the tri totals per post that you see in Dania's on screen graphic. So that is no help.
But one time I was at Palm Beach Kennel Club, and I looked up to see everyone hunched over their programs and I thought how weird it was that they were all simultaneously using the same data to do roughly the same calculations. So why couldn't their consensus be predicted?
Seems like it would be a lot simpler and more reliable than finding the winner.
I signed up for 'Kaggle' ("Your home for Data Science") a while back where their intro project is trying to predict survivors from the Titanic based on available passenger info.
They have a lot of ongoing competitions. You can win $25k right now just by coming up with the best code to ID a whale by its tail. If you'd prefer $100k, then just win the "Using News to Predict Stock Movements" contest. (or keep it to yourself and your syndicate and 'win' more, I would guess)
Anyway, I think that this prediction challenge should be doable, and a cool resource to have. I would like it to be Swiss Army style, and be able to operate on program pages for dogs, horses, and jai-alai.
