Lake Bottom Sleuth!
Jamie Summers is the speaker giving this talk– Perhaps you’ve walked on the bottom of a lake, mud squishing between your toes. To us, it seems like a chaos of goo. But to Jamie Summers, it’s a rich source of information, allowing not only the reconstruction of ancient environments, but also the assessment of the health of the ecosystem. Lake bottoms can tell us what the forest was like in a landscape 5000 years ago, and they can tell us what contaminants are challenging the watershed. Dr. Summers is an international expert on extracting fascinating information from lake bottoms, with an adept ability to communicate her methods and results to experts and the public alike.
