Their mother had always been a pillar of strength - both in his imagined stories but in fact, too. Kaliban was often amazed by how regularly and how capably she patrolled the borders and how diligently she was able to tend to each and every wolf within the boundaries. What took her a day often took Kaliban two, his know-how of the territory nowhere near as complete as her own. So her moments of softness were something he quite enjoyed and he was unashamed to lean into each and every display - who could be ashamed of being doted on by such a wolf? So he laid with her as he considered, carefully of course, answers to each of her questions.
He was thoughtful in his timing, and when he was ready to speak, he turned to face her and meet her eyes - equals in that moment, though he'd never forget his place. "All out there learning. We must all learn different skills so that our family has no single weak point." He thought it was a good answer and an honest one at that. Where Menkhet knew some things and Bastet others, he and Runihura knew things their sisters might never know as well. In that sense, they might all have individual weaknesses but as a unit - as they should be - they had no particular weak spot. To Kaliban, it only made sense that they'd always be together in that way.
As for learning from their mother? He couldn't help but flex his toes in excitement as he looked away in an effort to hide his eagerness just a little. "Lots of questions but curious to learn as well. Who taught you, mother? Do others know how?" His head tilted in curiosity though he still looked forward and not at Sekhmet, his attention suddenly drawn towards movement ahead of them. Ah, so Runihura had heard?
Though Kaliban was perhaps the first, it was Runihura who was the one who really commanded attention - much to Kaliban's chagrin, of course. It wasn't a surprise that he came with a challenge on his mind and instinctively, Kaliban rose ever so slightly in response - his tail waved but rose tall as his lips peeled back into a mischievous, toothy grin. Just as he was about to unleash all his energy into a mighty leap, their mother interjected - clearly it was not time for that kind of play. Kaliban, of course, settled back into place but he was sure to give Runihura a look of we'll do that later with a subtle, cheeky snap of his teeth towards him. For now, Kaliban would learn what he could from their mother so that he might really beat Runihura when they finally got to spar.
