I just checked my sightings records and found that I saw one in my backyard Mar. 3 2008. I live a half a block north of the library in downtown Barrie. It was perched in a far corner of my yard that morning, about 2 feet off the ground.
What was it doing in downtown Barrie? Well it was probably passing through on its way back north.
I feed birds. White Millet and Black Sunflower seeds. I am also inadvertently feeding mice who come at night to enjoy the bounty. So, if I can get a S.W. Owl at my place in an urban area, you probably can too if you feed birds.
