Thinking things through had never been one of Zephyr's fortes. His reactions were based mostly on instinct and his instinct told him to attack first. This was not a wolf to make ideal threats and she held the upper hand in all regards. Should she choose to, she could have ended Pascal's life right there and then. Rather than give her the chance, he sprang into action, easily giving his own life for hers without a second thought. He heard her cries as his teeth sank into flesh, but he ignored them. Right now, his attention was fully on Kattari as he tried to land another hit. He'd had the element of surprise with his first strike, but now she was well aware of his intentions and he knew she wasn't about to make the same mistake twice. Any attempts the white wolf had of biting her again were thwarted as her entire frame slammed into him. The wind was instantly knocked from his lungs, but before he could take a gulp of air, her teeth latched on to his neck and he was sent crashing to the ground. The force of the blow allowed her four canines to pierce through his skin and deep into his muscle. The yelp that escaped his mouth was involuntary. The growl that followed was not. Slowly, each fang was pulled from his flesh and he saw his own blood drip from them as she smiled down at him. A large paw was pressed against his wound and a jolt of pain shot through his body. His brain screamed for the rest of his body to move, to counter attack, but each leg lay limply against the solid earth as his lungs tried to gain air again. The wild woman spoke, her voice oozing out like sweet poison. The only response that came from the boy was malicious glare. Listening to Pascal beg for their lives, Zephyr watched the older wolfess carefully. She had to have some kind of weakness, a blind spot he could take advantage of. As if she could read his mind, her paw pushed harder into his neck and again, his body instinctively cried out in pain. For a moment, he stopped listening as he tried to force his body to move again. Still, it ignored him. Precious seconds were ticking away as his soul stood before her own death. He had to protect her! However, Pascal seemed to ask the right question. Unfamiliar names were spoken and Kattari's grip seemed to loosen, if only for a moment, as a wicked grin spread across her muzzle. None of this meant anything to Zephyr. For now, he was powerless to stop her, but if given enough time, he could regain his strength and attempt an escape. Jade colored eyes looked at the opal gems of his imprint. Silently, he begged her to buy them more time. If she could get Kattari talking, perhaps she would become distracted just enough for him to wiggle free of her grasp. |
