Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

She would do anything to take that lost feeling away from Maris. To feel so disconnected from the world around her; it must be miserable. Maybe she just needed a place to call home again, or at least a den that she felt safe in. It couldn't feel right to be alone out in the open and Avery didn't smell a pack scent on her so her mother and her must have been loners. It wouldn't do to leave her out here so it only felt right to invite her to Iromar. Avery didn't care about size or stature or whether the female could fight or not. Every wolf had something to give to its pack if they chose to and she saw great potential in Maris. She had only to regain her confidence so she could find it herself. Being smaller didn't mean she couldn't take down a bigger wolf if she knew how to work her angles and such. Or if she didn't want violence, there was always diplomacy or healing or many various other things she could do.

She could practically see the light bulb go off in Maris' head when she invited her to Iromar. She never felt inclined to tell someone that she was an alpha. It would just feel like she was boasting and in her own mind, she still had a long way to go to earn the title that she'd stepped forward for. No blood was shed for her title and no one had yet to challenge her for it so she was still untried and she wasn't getting any younger. She was working on it in other ways, by getting to know her pack wolves and slowly earning their trust. She was also talking to the other pack alphas and learning about them, reaching out with friendly paws to see who wanted an alliance. It was all slowly but surely coming together, but she found her purpose was far from over. She liked venturing out into the free lands now and getting to know the loner population too. If she could reach out to them like she did the other alphas, she would feel better.

She already had a good relationship with Ramos, a loner male that wandered by asking about the former alpha, Blackthorne, and offering her some advice. She welcomed him back to the pack anytime. Now she had Maris coming as a guest if she took her up on her offer. When the girl hesitated and asked if she was sure, Avery's smile only softened more and her orange eyes lit up. "I could very well be wrong but I'd like to say I'm a pretty good judge of character when it comes to other wolves and I think you've told me more about yourself in the short time we've had together than most of my pack wolves, so its a start." Her lips twitched with humor near the end. A lot of the Iromar wolves were pretty secretive but she wasn't one to push. Everyone had a past and no one had to be proud of it or share it with others if they didn't want to. When she mentioned puppies, she saw the smile light up Maris' face and her own heart leapt in her chest, glad to see such a reaction.

She said she would fit right in with them, that most figured she was one anyway. Avery sniffed. "Size isn't everything. Let others underestimate you; it's their loss when you surprise them all with what you can do." Avery smiled and winked, her voice ringing with confidence for what she could already see blooming in Maris. Then Maris said that she didn't want to come if she couldn't contribute and Avery got thoughtful for a minute before offering another smile. "Fine, here's your repayment. I want you to make three friends and tell them about Iromar. I don't care if it's good or bad, just your honest opinion of the pack and the wolves within it. Iromar has a bad rep from its past and I'm working hard to show Moladian that it's not the same pack it used to be. Your input would be greatly appreciated. You don't have to recruit anyone, just tell them about the pack and what you think of it. Think you can do that?" She pricked her ears attentively, waiting for Maris' response.
