But it’s always there;;

The femme wasn’t sure what the recent change she went through would mean for her life now. How much would it truly change her? It didn’t seem to have made her mate any different, besides the mark on his face. At least in terms of physical differences. He was still himself and that was why Shasta had been so willing to go through the change quickly herself. It might change her physical being, but she would still be herself. That would never change, and she didn’t want it to. They had all warned her, of how brutally painful the experience would be. But being the stubborn girl that she was, she said how she didn’t care, how she could take it. And in the end she had been able to. But it was not something that was to be belittled, and it was not something that she ever wanted to go through again. It gave her even more respect for Horizon and what he had done for her. He had gone through it again for no other reason other than to support her. And not only that. But Yayoi, the newly appointed alphess to the pack, had been willing to go through it with her had Horizon not shown up. Shasta and Horizon were bonded strongly, would easily suffer and die for one another. But Yayoi? She barely knew the femme. And yet, this warrioress had been there for her. It made Shasta trust her when she had been unsure before. She doubted that her sister would have done the same had she remained in the position of power.
Shasta had yet to appreciate how different her form was. She was much stronger than she was before her transformation, but not having tested this yet she didn’t realize what that meant. She would be a better warrior for any future battles. But she was not a true fighter. Sure she had been trained and was a great warrior, but she didn’t enjoy it. Shedding blood of others was not something she enjoyed. But, when the time came, and she knew it was when and not if with how her life went, it would all be clear to her what she was now. The difference that she had noticed was with her claws though. It was clear that they were stronger than they once were with every step that she took. It was not that they were heavy necessarily, but she could feel them more. And she hated how they looked. They were not a natural color, but deep blood red. As if they were always tainted with the evidence of battle. But just like the mark on her face, she could not change it and could not go back. This too was a permanent change.
With a sigh the femme walked through the territory of her new home. Shasta was still getting to know this new terrain, and it would be some time before it truly felt like home to her. As she strolled around the borders perimeter, she caught the scent of Yayoi. Her audettes perked, listening to see if there were any other signs of the alphess. But everything in the land was silent. Did she want to seek her out? If she did, what was the point? To just talk? She wasn’t sure, but something told her to follow the scent. So she crossed the borders as she followed the unmistakable trail that the other female had left. She wasn’t sure where she was going, and really it was none of her business. She wasn’t sure why she was following, but she had never been one not to follow her instincts. And right now she was being pulled this way. If it seemed that she was going to be interrupting something personal, then she would just leave and turn around. Act as if this had never happened. After some time, her long stilts carrying her quickly through the trees, the scent of another began to reach her nares. She was coming up to another pack’s border. Perhaps Yayoi had come to make an alliance with another? But would this have come up at the pack meeting? Maybe she just wanted to hash out the details of an alliance before alerting the others. Whatever it was, she decided it was okay to approach.
As Shasta’s form became visible through the trees, she saw Yayoi standing at the outside of the pack, with a large male standing within. Based on how he held himself, Shasta could only assume that this was the alpha. She knew that she was not traveling in any form of stealth, and surely the two would have heard her approach. She came alongside Yayoi, dipping her head to the other femme should she meet her gaze. Her attention was brought back to the male as he spoke though, in a most disrespectful manner too. "You reek of rot. Who are you and what is that vile stench that follows?" Shasta’s form stiffened at his words and his stance. Everything about him was hostile. Yayoi surely had not come here to attack his pack, so why was he reacting in such a manner? But at the same time, she didn’t know why they were here, and had nothing to say to this male. As her hackles rose in response to him, her eyes shifted again to the alphess, waiting for instruction or for any sort of hint as to what was to come.
