At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

I Remember Marking Every Victim with Acute Precision

The pair of unique looking pups easily leapt from rock to rock, higher and higher at the cliffs near the waves. Wolves with paws instead of hooves would be scrambling at the uneven rocks, at the slippery surface, but not these two. Neither of them realized that it was because of their hooves that they were able to easily navigate this terrain and get as high as they wanted. Giaza might think that she would grow to hate her horns and hooves, but without them they would be just like any other wolf. With their unique features they could offer help in different ways. Ways that other “normal” wolves would never expect. To Hemming, this should be seen as a gift. But he was still too young to grasp these thoughts and what they meant. To him, they were just two friends exploring a new place. Having fun.

The two youngsters began to exchange stories of their family life, and how things were different or the same. Hemming knew that he had to have a father, but he had never met him and had no idea who he was or what he was like. And his mother never spoke about him. He didn’t know if that was because he was a bad wolf or because she missed him. Helheim didn’t seem like the type to miss others though. More often than not she showed no emotion and was what others would see as cold. But Hemming thought it was just because she was trying to teach them how to be strong. At least that was what he told himself. He wanted to make her happy and please her, to see more emotion than the lack of with her that he was used to. As Giaza went on to speak of her mother and all the training her and her siblings went through, the young male realized how much he didn’t know about the world yet. Sure he knew of the gods, but had never realized there was much more to it than just their existence. How could there be a whole specialty in just spiritualty? And healing and spying, that was something he had never thought of. Helheim had focused on the fighting and the hunting parts, but mostly just defensive acts. She was still doing all the hunting for them. Was he already behind in life? Should he know more like Giaza did? ”I didn’t realize there was so much to learn about! Mother has shown us fighting stuff, well more defense. But she still hunts for us and we haven’t even talked about the other stuff you said. I wonder if I should tell her all this stuff that we’re missing…” He didn’t want to miss out on learning about the world, but he also didn’t want to anger mother.

The two cadejo’s made their way higher and higher. Giaza was leading the way mostly, and she was the first to notice that the wind was strong enough here to knock them tumbling down, possibly to their deaths. Hemming was tempted to see how high they could get, to try and show off even. But he knew how unsafe that was. He nodded his agreement with her when she spoke about exploring the lower, safer, areas. His horizon pupils looked to the left and right, trying to see the caves and holes that she had mentioned. And then he spotted one, too small for an adult to fit into, but the perfect size for the two of them. ”Oh! Over here Giaza!” His speckled plume wagged in anticipation. His hooves clicked on the rocks as he quickly leapt over to the hole that he had spotted. His eyes took a few moments to adjust to the darker area once his form squeezed between the rocks. There was a whole lot of nothing in the dark cave that he had found, and his tail went limp behind him. He was hoping for something more interesting to find, but there was nothing but a few empty bird nests. His attention turned back to his friend though as she spoke about siblings, and her last words made him sad. Clearly something had happened to her and to her family. ”I’m sorry about your siblings Giaza.” He didn’t want to pry about such a sensitive subject, but he also didn’t want to dismiss her words either. ”I have two brothers and a sister. My brothers are like you and me, but my sister doesn’t have horns of hooves or anything. I wonder why that is?” Hemming cocked his head as if realizing that difference for the first time now. He had always just seen them all as siblings, not as different or the same. ”Are all of your siblings like you too? Does your mother or father have any it? My mother doesn’t. And I don’t know anything about my father. Maybe we got it from him…”
