I don't have the energy atm to detail all the great points in Perry's observation.
Only enough to address one - Pattern Recognition.
There were certain players whom I always bet in the 8 hole.
Perry has identified one key type of play. I imagine that if the entries for hundreds of game were flashed on a screen in quick succession, his yes / no decision on whether or not they fit the criteria could come very quickly.
This touches on the Monday Morning Quarterback accusation. Obviously, once you ID a particular pattern, you would make the exact same determination for any game it might apply to, whether the entries were examined before the game, during the game, right after the game, or every single Monday morning in the year 2525.
So, if someone were to accuse Perry of MMQ'ing in one of these cases where he examined a game after the fact, I think you can see that the problem wouldn't be Perry, it would be that the accuser is not on the same wavelength, and is unable to see the pattern which is blindingly obvious to Perry.
The takeaway then, is that one person has done some thinking to discover a pattern with great predictive value, while the other hasn't seen that pattern and automatically goes into an 'I call bullshit!' mode.
Do you think these guys are Monday Morning Quarterbacks when it comes to detecting patterns?
