Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesCarden Today

A great day in Carden but flowers very slow with only Prairie Smoke in bloom and Early Buttercup in bud. But there were over 50 species of birds, Eastern Kingbirds just in last night on every fence panel. Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs in the flooded fields. The air was full of calls of Savannah Sparrows, Field Sparrows, Vesper Sparrows, Brown Thrashers and Bobolinks. Marsh had Swamp Sparrows and Marsh Wren. Butterfly numbers hight with several Mourning Cloaks,Eastern Commas and Red Admirals but the wind kept down the Olympia Marbles that were expected. Snapping Turtles, Painted Turtles and Blandings Turtles basking in the warm sun.
