It seems that me & Aging Ted have a footrace to describe the fag ends of British rubbish, er, popular culture. My latest entry is a movie that I heard about for years but only got to see for the first time this past weekend thanks to a kind soul who put it up on YouTube. It's called "It's Trad Dad!" (Yank title: "Ring A Ding Rhythm"), which was directed by Dick Lester. It's mainly a series of musical performances by English trad jazz bands w/some American pop/rock acts thrown in to help bolster the thin plot of a mayor of a "new town" banning trad jazz as a menace to society. Anyway, the redeeming feature of this movie is seeing the touches that Dick Lester put into it which makes it a dry run for A Hard Day's Night a couple of years later. My personal fave rave was the Temperance Seven which seemed like a proto-Bonzo Dog Band.
P.S.: Martin, what's all this then about libraries closing in your area? Replies:
