Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Who could fault a wolf for responding in such a way? Elohim might have done the same thing, though he seldom found himself in a position of being found. In any case, the most surprising part of Yami's response was his sheepishness, a sort of understated...apology, Elohim supposed. At least, a recognition that he'd lashed out. His brashness was Aster, but Elohim couldn't help but think the boy's self-awareness was Halcyon's doing. In a way, it was likely a good thing the boy had been raised so closely by his father. As for Aster? Well, Elohim had a feeling she might have stoked the boy's fire into something wilder.

The boy apologized and turned away to watch the dark water, and Elohim used the opportunity to smirk to himself in amusement. Forgive him for having not realized it was him? To be fair, if Elohim was Yami, he would have likely done the same thing even if he had recognized him. Despite Halcyon's neutrality - kindness, really - towards the man, Elohim had little doubts that Yami had heard other tales, or at least sniffed them out to some extent. Then again, perhaps not. Perhaps his parents were tight-lipped, and his siblings too.

"You ought to try the north of Ruieze," he suggested with a shrug when Yami turned back towards him. "If you toe the borders of Asteraia, you'll not find a better place to run than that." He frowned to himself for a split moment after having said it, his lips taut before he could quickly dissolve the expression back into casual nothingness. It was easy for a wolf like Elohim to detach himself from places, but what of Yami? He likely knew there was no better place to run...and so, he'd likely been avoiding it for a reason. Well, Elohim had always been good at stoking fires like Aster. Maybe it'd be good for the boy to face Asteraia again and realize it was just a place like any other...

He was, of course, getting ahead of himself. It was easy to bring himself back to the moment when Yami came forward; Elohim moved to meet him in the middle, stretching out his legs as he did so. "Weakness? I suppose so, but others might see it as a sign of honesty.” He gave a shrug. He’d at least understood quickly just what Yami had been thinking – that wasn’t always a bad thing. Some would be glad to not have to tip-toe about while trying to decipher some cryptic expression or honeyed words. Weakness? Maybe, but that depended on what kind of wolf Yami was concerned about appearing weak to.

"I’ve not much else to do,” he answered, "and I’ve often found it much easier to think when much of the world is asleep and unseen.” He grinned, almost certain Yami would at least relate to that. "You came to train,” he said then with a nod towards the river that still roared behind him, "and I haven’t been able to stop thinking since our meeting in Taviora – you train often, but what for?” He asked the question with some caution, not wanting to probe too suddenly but...he really hadn’t been able to stop thinking about that too (among many other things). Was it just for family tradition, or something else? He didn’t expect the entire truth, but he wondered...maybe he’d been making a mistake to not be training.
