Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

am I a monster when I sink my teeth into her?

Shrug. Elohim liked that. Or rather, he liked the fact that Dexter didn’t seem to consider his own opinion above another’s - modest, or at least close enough to it. As much as I can, he had said and Elohim liked that too. It made his lips turn up into a small grin. As much as he could? That made him think that even this wolf knew to keep some secrets, be they his own or somebody else’s. Then again, and Elohim had to admit it to himself, he could have simply been looking into the words too much. It had always been one of his habits. Some children grew up chewing on bones or getting into spars to entertain themselves, but Elohim had grown up looking for clues in words and un-words alike.

But they had begun their journey through Taviora and Elohim found himself more interested in that than the un-words. He’d given Dexter a curt bow of thanks before he had passed across borders and badlands alike and felt true Taviorian soil beneath his paws. He’d seen some of the pack but as Dexter begun to lead him, he wondered if the wolf might take him somewhere that Shem hadn’t. Shem was, after all, young and suspicious and had been exceptionally careful with his choices despite their shared blood. As fascinated as he was, it kept him busy when Dexter took his time to think over his questions. In the meantime, Elohim indulged himself in the pack’s scenery, his head tilted back to watch the canopy above as birds and leaves moved about above them.

Dexter’s chuckle turned Elohim’s face into a broad, toothed grin as his eyes left the canopy and found the man once again. One wolf to rule them all? Hadn’t there been a tale similar in the past? His father had mentioned one wolf, a wolf named Heyel, who had formally only ruled one pack but, well, Elohim’s father hadn’t been entirely sure that was true.

"I have always wondered if a single wolf could please every type of wolf,” he mused, "and then I remember that, perhaps in a sense, Zelda has done so already. She has, after all, found alliance after alliance.” He gave Dexter a curious look, both of them trying to read the other’s reaction it seemed. For Elohim, the mention of communication had certainly made his brow raise. Honest in their intentions? Ah, he wondered, but what if those intentions hadn’t been entirely good? The thought made his lip twitch into a smirk. "If Aranck or the Darkbringer had been honest – communicative – I wonder what perils we might have avoided,” he mused with a lingering thought of Moteuh, a half-sister taken in her first year by Aranck himself.

He looked away for a moment, his eyes having found the path ahead of them. It did seem somewhere new that they were headed, after all. It was better to focus on that than to become too caught up in the what ifs, no?

"My father is on the search for the names of wolves that those in Moladion see as suitable leaders,” he admitted with his own shrug, just as Dexter had given. For what purpose? Well, Elohim believed he knew but then again, as Dexter had put it...deception was more a weapon, and Eden had always been honest about using that weapon. "Finding a wolf clear in their intentions may be difficult, don’t you think? I don’t suppose Taviora has any of them hiding here in the forests?” His head jerked to a tilt, and his voice was alive with an unexpected fun. It was fun, after all, once he got over the subtle slight his father had likely meant by sending him on such a quest. His father wanted names or hints but Elohim hadn’t promised he’d hand them over – hell, he’d gotten curious himself. Maybe he should have communicated that to Eden, or maybe not. Maybe Elohim wasn’t the name on the lips of those thinking about wolves open about their intentions, after all.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
