She seemed quite amused with his first try, asking if she was trying to say her name was something to do with gashes or something. It even looked like she was laughing! It was so weird without sound but he closed his eyes and imagined it. He imagined she'd have a pretty musical laugh so he pretended he could hear it. Then he re-opened his eyes with a smile, glad to see her nodding. So he'd been better with his guess of a moon. Moon was an odd name, he felt, but if she was happy with it then he would go with it. He thought for a moment on the language his father taught him, tilting his head. "Would you mind if I call you Luna? It means moon in my second language. Not that there's anything wrong with Moon as a name...." Really, there was, but he was working on the whole speaking his mind thing. Apparently it could be considered rude sometimes.
He tried to follow her up the sand dunes but it was a lot harder than it looked and it wasn't long before he was sliding down faster than he could get up it. He glanced up, only to see her doing that thing again where she looked like she was laughing but there was no sound. Once again, he imagined her voice and smiled. When he started going diagnolly, he couldn't help but glance up, only to see the approval shining in her eyes as she made gestures like she was yipping or something. Was that her way of cheering him on or something? His lips tugged into a smirk. He'd take it. When he reached the top, he tried to shake the sand from his paws, only to glance over and see Luna rolling her eyes at him. He scowled, his nose scrunching up in response, but he shrugged it off. Maybe she liked being dirty.
When she nudged him with her shoulder, he smirked, nudging her right back. He was used to such gestures with his own siblings, though usually it was more a challenge to see who could nudge who harder and make them fall down. He'd hate to fall down this dune after he'd worked so hard to come up it so he would make sure he wasn't the one to go down! Then she did something weird, giving him a grin before she bowed in the sand and started to slide down. At first, he thought she hadn't meant to slide, his eyes widening as he went to circle around to stop her movement with own smaller body. But as she kept grinning and sliding, even shifting to make herself go faster, he figured out that indeed, she was doing it on purpose.
Why? He couldn't understand it. They had just made it to the top! Plus she was getting so much more sand on her now! He snorted and shook his head, watching until she got to the bottom. A part of him wanted to try it too cause she made it look fun but he'd hate to imagine trying to get all that sand out of his paws. There was already too much for his own liking. Sighing, he took a running leap at the edge of the dune, landing with a yelp and making himself leap again before he started rolling. He did little leaps until he made it to the bottom, his legs braced and trembling a little as he made sure he was on flat solid ground now before he straightened up and cleared his throat, trying to look composed. Only then did he turn to her with a smug smirk.
At her sudden look of concern, he lifted a brow in question. She started mouthing words and he concentrated on her lips. Something about his mom then call. Did she think he needed to check in or something? He chuckled and shook his head. "Believe me, if mother wants to find me, she'll find me. She has a talent for that." He said with a roll of his eyes.
