Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Return to Lunar Children
we fight what we can’t define,
IP: 58.172.148.193

There was a wolf in Asteraia, Kaliban thought, who scrambled up to the lower branches of trees too. Only, he never looked quite as content or relaxed as the Taviorian boy did. It made Kaliban think that maybe they were related somehow, but the colours were all wrong, and if they were related, why was the Taviorian boy, well, Taviorian? As far as Kaliban knew, wolves of Asteraia didn’t stray far from the pack, and they certainly didn’t leave to join other packs. As Niyol watched him with suspicion, Kaliban watched right back with a combination of fascination and uncertainty. It was instinctual, after all, to be uncertain towards new things, especially new things that threatened your way of seeing the world. Only, Kaliban didn’t know his way of seeing things had even been threatened. He just knew that he felt the tiniest thrum in the pit of his heart and a quiet plead that he’d at least get a bone or some meat to chew on to chase the feeling away.

When Niyol mentioned the brown girl, Kaliban snorted. Well, that had been a fast way to chase away that uncertainty! At least, in a way. Instead, Kaliban was amused then. The only brown girl in Asteraia was Menkhet – everybody else was older, or a boy. Didn’t the Taviorian boy know not to go near Menkhet, especially if she was in Asteraia or near the borders? It was common knowledge among the wolves of Asteraia that she had quite a wicked way of playing with others - even Kaliban had been toyed with by her! Of course, he didn’t mind so much but he had learned the appropriate cautions quickly. Didn’t other packs know that kind of thing? That there was always somebody at the top, and if it wasn’t you then you ought to know when and where to approach? Truly, he was bewildered. He blinked and shook his head, both to bring himself back to the conversation and to tell the boy a firm ‘no.’

"No, I came because I smelt you near her scent. I thought it was strange – she doesn’t usually go with other wolves.” And why would Kaliban have any reason to believe she had chased him off, or that he had run away? He had been less interested in the pawprints and more the scents, and besides, it was normal to chase one another anyway...

In any case, the boy seemed reassured and no sooner, he had changed completely. Kaliban blinked, a little taken aback by how suddenly he could change at all. He had gone from distant and suspicious to...friendly? Kaliban supposed it was friendliness. He didn’t really understand the idea of being a prankster extraordinaire or a hiding place expert, but he understood the tone and body language, nonetheless. He grinned, his own tail giving a hesitant shake behind him. Strange, strange new things.

"Well, I’m...” He paused for a moment, brows furrowed. Usually, his family didn’t give their names - at least, Menkhet and Bastet didn’t. Even their mother never shared hers, and he knew their father only truly as ‘father.’ Was it okay to give his name? He eyed Niyol for a moment and then shrugged. "I’m Kaliban.” He had no other titles, and he thought better of sharing much more until...later, maybe. Later when he understood things better.

"You were talking about ‘bones to pick’ though,” he remembered, and he immediately grinned a more honest grin. "If that girl was chasing you, you didn’t take any bones from Asteraia, did you? I’m usually good at hiding the one’s I want to finish, so if you took some, I won’t be mad. I’ll just hide them better next time.” In truth, he would be a little mad, but not mad enough to do much about it. Kaliban had to learn to be smarter if he wanted to navigate living in Asteraia without relying on his family or their positions. He wasn’t an heir, after all, so he wouldn’t have that benefit forever...and, in truth, he didn’t want to rely on Menkhet forever either. Sometimes, she made him a little anxious, or a little...unsure, like Niyol had.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
