First Breath After A Coma

I would honestly love you now,
But I would lovingly let you down.

Jabari was just as ill equipped to seduce mares and have them follow him home as he was at raiding. His inexperience made him feel vulnerable and foolish, but he tried to press through these feelings as best he could. Instead he smiled at the mare, almost eeriely, in an attempt to seem friendly and innocent. It wasn't that the stallion had anything to hide - he was just biting off more than he could chew. Emotionally, he was wreck. He'd barely escaped the Inlet at all, and hadn't given himself any time to process what had just happened with his aunt, with the poor mare he'd blindly attacked, and his father's fiercest enemy.

This mare here, offered a distraction. But she was more than that - she would become an added layer of lies. He was already in this deep... What's one more?

Briefly, he wondered what Celestria would think. Then his mind jumped to Petal. Did Petal know about his feelings for Celestria? The stallion was on edge and clearly scatterbrained. He tossed his two-toned head wildly and snorted loudly, before settling his attention back on the mare standing before him. He'd addressed her, but she'd yet to say anything to him at all.

She was staring at him - so she knew he was there, at least. When she snorted at him, his brown ear lobes flicked forward at attention, then rested at the sides of his head again. He was confused. But most of all, he was impatient. Let's get this moving along, he thought.

"Soooo...." He begins again, flicking his tail aggressively over his rump. "Are you looking for a home?"

You'd think that Jabari, out of all the stallions who lived among the islands, would be compassionate and intuitive enough to recognize the mare was mute. His own mother was mute, and Jabari had always had a special relationship with her. "My name is Jabari. I live in a place called the Prairie with my sire, Shamwari. There are lots of other horses there. We look out for each other."
