Geoff our researcher undertakes a lot of successful research for people who put messages here on the Message Board and in response to the many e-mails he receives requesting information. Unfortunately from time to time he will get no reply to the research he has completed and results forwarded to those who enquired, with no thanks nor even confirmation that they have in fact read his message in reply. He puts a lot of time into doing the research requested and it gets very frustrating doing the work and spending valuable time in doing it, only to get no reply or acknowledgement whatsoever from those who sought the information.
We do not charge anyone for this work although we do ask for voluntary donations. This however may have to change if you cannot be bothered to reply. We do not want to do this but why should Geoff do all the work, forward a reply with the requested information and not even have the common courtesy of a reply from that person?

We are often asked for information about an individual LF and in particular for information regarding their service during WW2.
Sadly, Service Records for this period are not held locally. In order to obtain information an application would have to be made to the Historical Disclosures Section at the Army Records Office in Glasgow. I have placed a link below which explains how to go about obtaining a Service Record. In normal circumstances it is only a relative who can apply. It will be necessary to download a Subject Request Form and a Kinship Form. Where relevant a death certificate will have to accompany the application along with a search fee, currently £30 per requested search. Contrary to popular belief an Army Service Number is not an absolute necessity but without one you may be asked to supply additional information to assist in identifying the correct individual. Sadly most individual records from WW1 where destroyed in the blitz of WW2
