Thank you for that information. Being from Heywood myself I know how common the name is in that area!
I'm afraid I don't know his regimental number but if it helps: his wife was Mary Ashton and his birth date was April (I think) 1859. His address in 1911 was 7 Buxton Street, Heywood and his father's name was John Stott.
I have read a newspaper article (Heywood Advertiser 18th Jan 1918) reporting that he went missing at Cambrai on 20th November 2017 and was then sent to a POW camp near Limberg. Apparently he was injured in his arm and legs.
Hopefully this will help you to narrow it down so to speak. I would love to know more.
