I will not be announcing jai alai again my friend. I have accepted positions with the Orlando Solar Bears, University of South Florida Bulls and Stetson University Hatters for starters. I will be returning to on field sport officiating imminently as well. I would not accept a position as a jai alai CEO unless it came with full control ofnthe entire operation because:
1. All owners now see any live racing event as a money pit.
2. Without money you can't market.
3. It's not a jai alai problem, it's a pari-mutuel problem, times have passed the business as a whole by.
4. Enjoy it while it lasts, there is no fix, and just like the greyhound business will die because there will be only 7 tracks in North America, no whelping, no farms left to train, without the American Jai Alai portal, there is no reason for young basque kids to seek an oppotunity here, so as we've seen participation is a slight fraction of what it once was.
5.the truth hurts much more than any rose collored glasses fodder. The sport AND BUSINESS have been in deep decline since 1990. Pari mutuel wagering has been crashing at all levels for over 15 years.. Major horse tracks closing, dog tracks and frontons. There is no desire for this product. We are now a society of 2 types of gambler as gambling also loses steam... Casino (slots/tables) and professional major sports / daily fantasy.
As a closing note, I've always LOVED how an informed position that simply showcases an apparent narrative can be "negative" or "hateful" guys we're all going to pass on one day, if I was to speak on that it's not being negative. It's just showcasing the facts. Replies:
