bring me back to life...

It was hard to believe that she'd been wandering this island for months now, flitting from one place to another. She'd come across a couple stallions so far and while she'd like nothing less than to never meet another stallion again, she had no reason to fear either of them and it still bothered her. Neither had been overly intimidating or mean, but that could have been a mask. The first had showed her where she could hide from prying eyes under a waterfall and while she appreciated the gesture, he didn't stick around long and the lonliness had sunk in like the cold. Then she met another stallion who'd gone so far as to greet her and give his name, Requiem. He said something about a bay too which she could only assume was his home island but she wouldn't even know where to begin to look for that place nor was she even sure she wanted to go there.

Still, being alone was starting to mess with her even more than her fear of stallions. She wasn't sleeping very well at night. Every little sound or smell spooked her. The scars on her skin were healing but she still felt them like it was yesterday. It was hard to believe that just a year or so ago, she was a very different creature. She used to have spunk and greet everyone she met with an exuberance and fire that couldn't be matched. But that was before she met he who shall not be named. Just thinking his name was enough to make her shiver like the temperature had dropped twenty degrees. She brushed the thoughts from her mind. No, she wouldn't go to that dark place. She'd found a new area on the island to hang out in, but something told her things were not as peaceful here as she first thought.

She thought she heard a mare's defiant screams not so far away and it made a shiver run down her spine. Swishing her tail with a snort, she grabbed a bite of grass but the snap of a twig not too far away caused her to jump with a rattling snort, the whites of her eyes rolling as she galloped a little further inland before she stopped under a tree. A light sheen of sweat already covered her coat and her nostrils flared as she searched the open fields for the source of the noise. Who was she kidding? She almost welcomed another horse at this point, no matter their gender.
