Ernesto watched as his son took his chastisement with a frown, but no argument. Ernesto wasn’t one to lecture, but he was glad that he seemed to have made his point. Who said parenting had to be miserable?

It was certainly about to be anything but.

Ernesto’s lips curled into an amused grin at Augustine’s reply. If he had eyebrows, he would have raised them playfully. So he was reaching that age – where he started to take an interest in ladies beyond chasing around fillies his own age as a kid.

Luckily for Augustine, Ernesto considered himself quite adept at this topic, if nothing else.

“Oh, I see how it is. You are growing up, hijo,” he began with a chuckle. “Mostly this kind of thing takes a lot of practice, but perhaps I can offer you a little advice, a few tips to begin with.”

He paused a moment, watching for his son’s reaction with interest. He had never taught his mother tongue to one of his children before, it was an intriguing concept.

“I can’t teach you my accent, that comes from speaking another tongue all your life, but you might start to pick it up a little if you learn some words. Here, the ladies love to be flattered, I find that is rule number one. If she is a beauty you should tell her – she is una belleza. Try it.”
