it was a place she was never meant to have known.

perhaps, at one time, it would have been considered an inheritance. it was in her veins, in her very essence. the islands was where the seeds had been sown, placed in the cool earth with hopes someday something might flourish.

and like it happens, time and time again, history would repeat itself. an orphan came upon the crossing, cold and fatigued. she rose from the surf, as her grandmother had all those many years ago. leonid had no way of truly knowing this history, but rising to stand all of it felt.. familiar.

like cold starlight, the wispy figure traversed through the night air. her steps were delicate, doe-like, as she ventured into the unknown. it was clear to her, in arriving at the commons that she was truly alone. it made her ache for her mother's comfort, her dear mother. the old mare had languished in the passing of the year. perhaps she'd been far too old to bring life into this world. her body was too weak, made humble by the warring provinces of leonid's homelands. love, as it would seem, had the ability to make even the strongest quite weak.

leonid sought not the perfume of aggression, nor the swill of petulant swine. though, there she stood. a vire, a fallen star, left in a lawless place. abandoned by fate, and urged into the mortal coil and held there by defeat.

briefly again, she thought of her mother: seeking through the gloam for something to draw the aged one's wisdom to mind. perhaps it was the fatigue, perhaps it was falling of adrenaline, but nothing. there was nothing but leonid, the stars above, and the nightsky's breath passing across the island.
