Obtaining Service Records

At this time of year we are often asked for information about an individual LF and in particular for information regarding their service during WW2.
Sadly, Service Records for this period are not held locally. In order to obtain information an application would have to be made to the Historical Disclosures Section at the Army Records Office in Glasgow. I have placed a link below which explains how to go about obtaining a Service Record. In normal circumstances it is only a relative who can apply. It will be necessary to download a Subject Request Form and a Kinship Form. Where relevant a death certificate will have to accompany the application along with a search fee, currently £30 per requested search. Contrary to popular belief an Army Service Number is not an absolute necessity but without one you may be asked to supply additional information to assist in identifying the correct individual.
