PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Making love to a m e m o r y

"If Love himself weep, shall not lovers weep,
learning from what sad cause he pours his tears?
Love hears his ladies crying their distress,
showing forth bitter sorrow through their eyes
because villainous Death has worked its cruel
destructive art upon a gentle heart,
and laid waste all that earth can find to praise
in a gracious lady, save her chastity."

They came one by one. Each, a new face. All members Macabre had never met before.

At first, it excited her. Her eyes gleaned with hope and pride to see the numbers of the Peak herd at such healthy levels. For so long, the herd had dwindled. But even in her absence, and after Jetta's and Oswin's departures, the heartbeat of the Peak continued. The petite flaxen chestnut mare searched the growing crowd for any familiar faces, but she didn't see them. Metre and Bozena were gone, Wasp had already explained, taken captive by Cullen. So she breathed a heavy sigh, and greeted each new face with a simple but gentle smile.

Wasp was the last to come down the rocky trail from the mountaintop. Macabre waited until her daughter returned to the gaggle, taking a stand near her, but somewhat off to the side. Macabre then took a step forward and nickered eagerly to the mares who waited and listened. "My name is Macabre. I am the Codebreaker of the Peak." She began, her voice loud and clear. "I'm sorry that I have yet to meet so many of you personally. I've been away from home for far too long, unfortunately not by my own devices." She wonders briefly how detailed she should be. With the anxious flick of her tail, she continues on. "But I'm home now. And it is so good to see so many of you here."

"The Lagoon has long been our enemy, and as of late, they've attacked our herd aggressively." Macabre says, her dark, marbled eyes hardening. "That ends here."

She tosses her head and shifts her weight over her legs as she gauges the feel of the herd. "During my travels, I've learned that a war is coming." She explains bluntly. "The Lagoon has aligned themselves with two territory leaders, and they plan to attack all mare-led herds. I'm afraid the Peak, too will be well within their targets."

"The Peak will stand by the Queen of the Forest, her allies on Luthien, and with every other terrain among the islands lead by a mare." Macabre declares. "I know many of you don't know me. I do not expect you to join us just because some stranger asked you to. You are welcome to stay here in the Peak, whether you help us fight back or not. But the Peak has been my home for many years. The sisters here gave me shelter and hope when I needed it most. They protected me and my daughter. I owe it them to protect their legacy, and to keep our borders safe for any who seek freedom and safety today or well into the future." Macabre says, her gaze bouncing from face to face. "We need you. All of you. All of your talents. If you are no warrior, we need your gift of strategy. If no thief, we need your ability of deception."

She breathes a heavy sigh, and takes a step toward her daughter, nudging her gently at her shoulder.

"Please, join us."

"Hear then how Love paid homeage to this lady;
I saw him weeping there in human form,
observing the stilled image of her grace;
and more than once he raised his eyes toward Heaven,
where that sweet soul already had its home,
which once, on earth, had worn enchanting flesh."
