I do not desire to return home with him, Bjorn said. Home, Jetta thought. So the Norðurland was Bjorn’s home. That did not sound sinister, and yet… Jetta was left with more questions than answers. She did not want to pry, yet Bjorn offered all this information freely, even as far as to admit that Ivar was unwell, something that was no doubt quite personal to Bjorn and his family. Perhaps he would not mind if she probed a little more, since she had given him information of her own.

“Perhaps ‘surprise’ is not the right word,” she admitted, gazing off thoughtfully into the trees. “Maybe… confusion is a better one. My vision had made me imagine the worst, nothing like what you have told me. As I said, however… I often find that what I see is not so much a promise as it is a possibility. I would urge you to be careful, Bjorn. There is still time to turn the tides of fate.”

Yet Bjorn’s use of the word ‘unwell’ had reminded Jetta of her own quandary, and in spite of how strong she had felt moments before, she suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. Pale eyes fluttering closed for a moment, Jetta steeled herself against the sensation, locking her knees to stop herself from toppling over. “Forgive me,” she muttered to Bjorn, and her weary eyes found his face again. “I am much more tired than I realized. We can talk more about this later, if you would like.”

She offered Bjorn a smile. “And thank you again. I may need another day or two to recover, if it’s all right with you, but after that, Wade and I will leave your herd in peace. You have been most kind to listen to my ramblings in the meantime.”
