Some mares could be such snobs. Sure, he didn't judge the maority because there were real things of beauty like Harlequin and Geneva, mares who appreciated his strength and willingness to defend his herd and there were mares like Vihaan, who showed her own strength in making decisions that others wouldn't dare to make for her. Then there were others who turned up their noses at the first sight of him and his precious home. He had been watching Leonid carefully, whether she knew it or not. He knew she was a running risk and the longer he watched her treat his territory like it was beneath her, the less he began to care if she did. She seemed to dislike him no matter what. She was set in her ways and wouldn't give him the time of day to correct it or change her mind.

He didn't even understand what exactly he did wrong when it came to her. Sure, with other mares, he knew he'd been rough and pushy. But he'd asked for her name and treated her nice then defended her against a stallion who only cared to possess her and instead she only seemed to care for the ruffian who swooped in and spoke soothing words while trying to push past Cain. She didn't seem to care to build a relationship with him or find out who he really was. She jumped to her own conclusions and lived by them in her shallow shell. She knew nothing of the way he ruled and treated his mares. She never gave him a chance so maybe he should throw her back like a fish that didn't meet the measurements. Like trying to keep Bhaskara, she might be more trouble than she was worth.

He could always try again later with others. She was young and naive. Let her learn her own mistakes. He would still be around when she figured out where she went wrong. She acted like she was born to lead and yet she couldn't handle the Desert and a stallion who challenged her. That was weakness at its true form in his opinion. Maybe she wouldn't make it in the Desert even if she stayed. He wanted strong mares, after all. He'd done his share of force breeding but once he found out there was a different way, he hadn't tried since. He didn't even breed Harlequin this past season, giving her the freedom to choose to wait and so they did. She only thought he wasn't watching, but Cain was always watching. And so when she turned tail and fled, he waited a moment, sighed, then trotted after her. He took his time, following her scent and her distant figure.

She knew nothing of his mares cause she didn't even take the time to get to know them. Well, she didn't deserve to. She didn't deserve to meet Harlequin's fire or Geneva's gentle soul. She didn't deserve to know of Vihaan's fierce noble streak or Primrose's courage. He was only disappointed that she chose to run from this life instead of facing it head on. She didn't even try to talk to him without the distraction of other stallions. He followed her through the waves, watching as she came on the shore of Paradise. He'd never been there but he was quick to pick up on the scent of none other than Rougaru, the stallion who had tried to sneak her away in the Commons. He rolled his eyes. Of course she would come here. He came up on shore a few miles from her, shaking the water from his coat as he made his way toward her. He could see she was a mission but he made sure to take off parallel through the jungle until he was able to cut her off and cross in her path.

He stopped once he was blocking her, his head up and his eyes shining with disappointment as he flared his nostrils and swished his tail. "You, who consider yourself so mighty that you would turn tail and flee like a rodent instead of just talking to me. I guess I'm so far beneath your regal nose that you can't see me but in this, you will hear me. I came all this way chasing you just so you would know that you are not smarter or faster or more cunning than anyone, not even me. If life is so horrible in the place you can't even bear to step foot in, then be the coward whose hooves you currently fill and stay away. You're not worth the trouble I put into defending you if this is how you treat stallions. You think I'm so vile that you can't bear to be in my presence yet it is you who treats others like the dirt beneath your hooves. You, Leonid, who talked of calling someone by their name instead of pet names because it's respectful but can't even talk to me face to face."

He shook his head with a snort. "You want another home so badly? Fine, go get it. You're released. Just go there knowing that this was my decision, not yours. Keep playing the victim but I see right through you, little girl." He looked her up and down with another shake of his head and a sneer on his lips before he turned and trotted back into the water, swimming back to his home where he would gladly spend his days.
