Re(1): The Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier May Be Retired, But It Was The Best Of Its Generation

A great summary. It bring to mind the continuing concern about that we have evolved them into enormous expensive vulnerable floating quickly identifiable target and we have copied the mistaken ways of those "Battleship Admiral' Admirers of the early 20th century. Why have we not also done the same with those "Jeep" carriers of WW 2. It is the 21st Century and the world of guided missiles that are easily directed and can easily put out of commission those large floating targets . When they get hit it wiil be in the open sea and our loss wil be strategicall fatal in a big war Why we cannot supplement those big vulnerable targets . it appears Naval Aviation has gone the way of those fixed naval mindsof the early 1900's Hope the develo[ping Space Force will fill in thegap.
