When I went down for breakfast this morning, I happened to watch again a segment of the documentary entitled as above . This documentary put forward (and ultimately shot down) the conspiracy theories that FDR actually wanted Japan to attack Pearl harbor, so as to ensure the U.S. entrance into WWII.
What really caught my attention this time, though, was a five page Memo written by a LCDR in the Intelligence Service, suggesting steps that the U.S. might take to induce Japan into making an overt act of war against the U.S.--including stationing the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor. Although the documentary pointed out that FDR never saw this Memo,
it is surprising to me that the U.S. would essentially carry out most of the recommendations proposed by a LCDR in the Naval Intelligence Service (!).
I guest it just must have been a coincidence.
