Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

All the tensing in the world wouldn't have clued Ella in. Even though she had noticed the girl tense up, she'd still gone ahead and approached anyway. As far as Ella was concerned, there were two options when a wolf tensed up like that - you either made them nervous, or they wanted to make you nervous. Seeing as Ella didn't feel very nervous, she supposed it must be the former, in which case it was partly her duty to absolve that nervousness. Or, at least, it gave her a better shot at not being turned on with teeth within the first few seconds of meeting.

That, she found out, seemed to be the case! She hadn't a clue what her now-companion had been expecting, but she lapped up the cool water as Sadira watched her, taking the girl's pause as a well-earned break of her own. Ella noticed the girl look down to her own legs when she spoke, but Ella didn't look. Why should she, anyway? They were just legs! She had a hard time understanding why the girl seemed almost bothered by two perfectly good legs that had gotten her so far! For once, Ella kept such thoughts to herself. Even a wolf like her knew when to keep quiet - the girl's words had been honest and bare, after all, and had made Ella pause before she raised her eyebrows and nodded, a sort of 'good point.'

"Oh, aye, you've a good point there!" Perhaps her voice was a little too upbeat considering the topic of their conversation, but Ella didn't know how else to be. She grinned, genuinely adoring the bluntness of Sadira's reply. "Guess it goes to show, huh? They aren't even considerin' what else is good just 'cause their situation's the same as everybody else's. Bullshit, I reckon!" She snorted and smirked, shaking her head. All the while, she'd practically settled in next to Sadira as if they were friends. Well, close enough. She hadn't the guts to settle right into the water, but she'd plonked herself down so that she could sit with her legs in the water. It was relieving! Even more relieving than a drink, she thought, but still, she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that her stranger hadn't anything to eat around her. Yes, she'd checked. It would have been even better to get a friend, a conversation, a drink and a meal!

"I say though, I think they'll heal up. Might be takin' a while, but they'll heal up," she said with a shrug, meeting Sadira's eyes with unadultered friendliness - there was no pity in her voice or even her eyes, just saying what she thought a wolf ought to know. "I've been travelin' a while and I've seen our kind missing more than a few bits 'n pieces still runnin' a pack like any king would, ey. I reckon we're tough buggers, and us girls even moreso!" She gave a sudden hah! part-way between a laugh and a snort, lifting one shoulder as if to nudge Sadira (which, of course, she wouldn't do - but it was the motion that mattered! The sentiment!) But in truth, she really did think so. Girls had it rough, even it was even rougher when they had to deal with scars and all that on top of being looked down because of it. At least, in some circles. Ella had encountered just as many wolves who appreciated others with their scars and all, so she wanted Sadira to know those kinds of wolves existed too. Why? Why care for s a stranger so much? Well, Ella had to ask why the hell not!
