Re(6): Magic City to host U.S. National Jai-Alai Championship 4/25-26/2020

The $20K national jai-alai championship is great for the sport and will hopefully be a success. With the court and ball being unique, there should be more than one day allowed for practice. I never imagined a prize money tournament for amateurs, pros, and ex-pros. The small court version of jai-alai is easier in some regards and tougher in some ways too. If there is another tournament next year perhaps it will be open to non US citizens as well. It would be great to get sponsors and media involved to assist in costs and promotion. This jai-alai tournament is helping to pave the way for the sports longevity and to get more kids interested in learning to play. It will be interesting to see who the players are, probably a few teams from the CT area and some from the FL area along with ex-pros and current pro's. I think if Tevin or Diego were to enter they would be the favorites to win. let's not forget about King's Court jai-alai which opened the first glass wall type court which had players from Dania and Miami jai-alai. Does anyone know where Magic City gets their jai-alai balls from ? Are the then customized further afterward ? Tevin and Medrano made some nice custom balls after the glass panels were cracking at king's court. Jai-alai Heaven in CT used the yellow dimpled batting cage baseballs which were carefully ground down to size then taped and microwaved for about ten seconds to warm them up prior to use. Magic City is putting forth a nice effort in the sport and it would be nice to see Dania have more promotions and tournaments. Obviously the sport will never be as popular in the US back in the 70-80's but jai-alai is a great sport and with a bit of effort the sport will sell itself. The new HD cameras allow for much better video of the action as seen with the Barcelona tournament in 2018. The prices of the HD cameras are quite reasonable and should be utilized to show off the sport and of course to help generate more OTB revenues at Dania, Magic City, and Miami. Pompano jai-alai casino should seriously concider having a proper 36 meter cancha built instead of the glass wall court. The amateurs learning to play jai-alai learn to play on proper size courts with granite and cement walls. The glass wall courts take away some aspects of the sport that are a necessity when playing the sport at a professional level. However i'm glad to see how well Magic City has been improving. Calder's court is okay but the overall height is too low. There seems to be no better replacement than a granite and cement court and a goat skin covered pelota in order to offer the sport in the best true form which in turn gives the ones viewing the most amazing points with players forms which are sometimes very beautiful, powerful, and graceful. Like "ballet with bullets".
