Bill, the result of any decision short of removal from office will result in a "Sham Trial" cry from the Democrats and the media. The chosen excerpts from Boulton book as well as unsupported claims about the book would receive extensive coverage from the Democrats and the media. It makes sense to shut the impeachment down to remove a "media platform" for the democrats.
I don't think Biden has much to fear from the Senate. I'm sure there are many sons and daughters of politicians, both Democrat and Republican, that owe their achievements to their father's position.
