| her steps were timid and gentle as she pulled herself from the sea. water, flush with salt, ran in rivulets down her sides, along the soft curves of her legs and into the gathering of feathers around each mottled hoof. in the very bright sun, and from a good distance, she would appear a dirty grey, but upon closer inspection, the white of her coat was distinctly and pleasantly mottled by soft smudges of brown that matched the warmth and darkness of her eyes. the soft specks turned a darker brown and even a charcoal color as they made their way past her hocks and knees though they disappeared under the soft fluff of mostly white feathers at her fetlocks. pigeon basked in the way the sun was smiling down, glowing with serene warmth. it caused little bubbles of happiness to surface in her, despite her nerves. she didn’t know where she was going but could it be very bad when the sky itself seemed so happy? she lengthens her cautious steps, walking further inland. she was smaller in stature, just over fourteen hands, and had an average build despite a mix of draft heritage. her head was distinctly feminine, with a petite dark mottled muzzle, and a tumble of white-ish mane from which the tops of her broad ears poked through. they turn curiously, following this sound, and that, alert to the soft fall of hoofbeats as others pass through and the songs of summer birds. her eyes, warm and honey brown, pass over the figures mingling and take in the rest of her surroundings. it seems like a pleasant place, temperate and still lush with summer grass, and so she decides with a polite bob of her head, which might look silly to onlookers… that it would be a good enough place to rest until tomorrow.
