Dahlia

she’s not sure what draws her to the rugged mountaintops in the distance… they seem harsh and unforgiving. absolute… they were a sharp contrast to the lands around her it seemed and that’s what she craved. contrast. the knowledge of what it would be like to climb those lofty trails only to turn and look down in wonder on the rest of the isle. it seemed like as good a place as any to start at least and so, she makes a mental note to plan that adventure upon her reunion with daphne

she feels a small smile tugging again at her features and forgets to bat it away, distracted by ramiel. his exuberance is enough to pull her mind away from the picture of serious and worried raziel watching behind them and the mountains in the distance. he agrees with her philosophy and she wonders what keeps them from such an adventure. what is it that causes ramiel’s tone to dampen occasionally, and wistfully muse upon exploring these isles when their only excuse to move on was how crowded it was? what was it that had raziel so disgruntled, and he did truly seemed disgruntled, and cautious?

she would never be so bold as to ask outright, but the mystery of it is intriguing and disappointing all at once. as genuinely as ramiel seems to support her dreams and wish her happiness, she wishes the same for him. if it weren’t for raziel’s insistence, would they stay? something about the look in the paler brother’s eyes made her feel certain that whatever was the matter, wouldn’t change with the scenery.

her brown eyes focus on the widening path ahead, golden ears forward, as she listens to ramiel. she hadn’t really thought of before, the proximity of the isles and their vast differences. she didn’t know much about the northern or southern most isles, but the two she had ventured too seemed quite different indeed. without thinking she asks, “had you heard of the isles before you passed through? or just came upon them by chance?” she instantly regrets this question, casting a quick and nervous glance at raziel, whose privacy was most likely to be infringed upon… luckily they have reached the clearing of the commons and instead of waiting for an answer, she focuses acutely on the mulling figures in the distance.

the small perlino mare was nowhere she could see. once again testing the air for her mothers scent dahlia lifts her wry nose, dark nostrils flaring softly. her eyes widen slightly when she realizes she may indeed recognize petal's scent and another unexpected one…shamwari? ”i don’t see her… but i think..perhaps if i’m right anyway… that she’s been here? and my grandfather as well…” she walks ahead a few steps… separating herself for the moment to digest her discovery. wondering what it would mean for her mother to be found here by shamwari… probably very little. but at least it meant that going back to the prairie for daphne meant she would had a greater chance of learning something… if shamwari had talked to her mother and they worked things out perhaps it would be the reunion she’d been hoping for… or at least he’d know if she was safe.
