Meadowlarks!

On Macarthur Sideroad yesterday, we watched a flock of six Eastern Meadowlarks crossing back and forth through the farm fields. First of the season. They had good reason to be a bit mobile: a Harrier was also hunting over the fields, scaring up a flock of starlings while it patrolled. East of Washago between Cooper's Falls Road and Fairgrounds Road.
Overnight the Great Horned Owl was calling again from across the swamp. And the robins have been doing their territorial songs, sporadically. This morning, crows, Goldfinches, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, our clan of chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatch, a few gulls. And on the Green River, just a single pair of male Goldeneyes.
