i always feel like you haven't gone far

Coda's heart drops for the final time at Solomon's chuckle. He isn't buying it. This is really happening and there's nothing more she can do about it. Perhaps she can win back her freedom when she's rested, but for now her freedom is well and truly gone. Bitterness rises up in her throat, but Coda swallows and shoves it away. She will not allow it to show on her face. Instead, she forces an impassive expression, though she is not entirely successful at erasing the tension from her face. She slows significantly when they reach the trees bordering the field, taking full advantage of the reduced pressure to keep moving. Some mares might find no point in dragging this out as long as she does, but Coda hasn't finished sulking.

She almost accepts the stallion's offer to stay and rest for a while before leaving, though she's aware that either way she will still be his captive. If the stallion had meant to imply anything beyond the actual words he'd spoken, it flies right over Coda's head. All she knows is that she is so, so tired of the ocean, so a place named the Cove can't be anything that she'll enjoy. The only thing that stops her is the thought of others falling into his hands. If you accept his offer, you will be selfish, selfish, selfish, she tells herself over and over. She will not be the cause of another's freedom being taken away when it would make no difference to her own status.

"No," she says instead, refusing to meet his eyes. "You got me. I'm a liar. Lead on." And she does her best to enjoy and remember the feeling of leaves and grass underneath her hooves before heading off to what is almost certainly more water and sand. She keeps her eyes on the ground, as if staring intensely at fallen leaves and tree roots is going to do anything to help her situation. If she doesn't look at him, Coda thinks, she might just be able to keep the mess of fear and resentment inside her from spilling out.

OOC: I don't want Coda to have a foal this season. No worries, your writing is nice to read!
