He clenched his jaw as she tried to comfort him with her words, his tail lashing at his own flanks as he snorted angrily and tossed his head. "Well, it's a crappy way to get members. She's going to be so scared and confused over there, not to mention Paisley. What kind of father fails their daughter when they need him most?" The pain tugged at him until he felt heavy and unsure. He'd never had doubts before but now they were surfacing. She spoke of challenging for the lead position and he told her that he would support her but was glad she explained her reasoning better. She wanted to know if other mares might want the position themselves. He shrugged. "I guess. I know all the mares can handle themselves so just try not to hurt each other too badly." He said almost teasingly. He smiled when Zubeia came near, telling him that she was well and just getting used to the desert. He nodded. "I hope it's to your liking." He asked with his ears pricked. He could tell Zubeia was trying to tell him something more from the way she was looking at him, perhaps wanting to reassure him that she was okay from the breeding? He could only hope so and let out a breath of relief he didn't know he was holding before he looked at his son. When Legolas asked why stallions fight, Cain straightened up. "To protect others. If you decide to lead a herd, that herd will be under your protection and sometimes other horses will threaten it. You must be strong enough to meet their threats head on and drive them away so they know never to threaten your herd again." He glanced then at Geneva and smiled before looking back at Legolas. "Some fight for love. They will do anything to protect the ones they love." He thought then of Vihaan. "Others fight for the ones who can't, the innocent and the weak. You must pick your fights carefully and know your opponents."
