PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

escape from solomon - any

Solomon was gone.

Coda didn't know where, exactly, but that wasn't important if she knew where he wasn't. The way to the beach was clear, and the swim to the island south of the Cove uneventful. And now that Coda had had time to rest a while, the journey to this island didn't put much strain on her muscles. She emerged from the waves with a quick heartbeat but not gasping for breath. A mountain range rose before her, its slopes dotted with shadowed trees. For a moment, a pang of fear shot through the grey mare. What if she lost her way through the mountains and got stuck? What if she was seized by wolves or a cougar? As much as she resented Solomon for giving her no choice but to join him, at least she could count on the safety of a herd and stallion in the Cove. It was not so here.

She hesitated on the moonlit shore for several long minutes, debating whether to turn back. She feared the consequences if she returned and Solomon found out about her escape attempt, but being stranded and death by vicious predator would surely be even worse. Alternatively, she could go back into the ocean and keep swimming until she reached the fields she'd been taken from. But was that too obvious of a place? Would she be found easily, and claimed again - this time far less gently than the first?

In the end, she decided to keep swimming, but not as far as the Common. She'd seen a river coming from the mountains on her swim to the Cove. She would stop there and follow the river inland. If she kept close to it, she wouldn't get lost. She'd stay in the mountain for a few days, then travel to the Common again. She could figure out what to do from there. As for predators -

An image of being clawed to death by a mountain lion flashed through her head, and Coda almost abandoned her plan right then and there. But she told herself that she'd come too far to turn back immediately at the first hint of trouble; she could at least make it as far as the river before making a decision. This was not even close to effective at easing her anxiety, but Coda forcibly banished the thoughts from her head as she plunged back into the waves. If she focused on swimming, she could just about keep the crippling doubt at bay.

The sky began to lighten, and the sun was high in the sky by the time Coda climbed ashore again, helping to warm and dry her. The river was maybe a mile or two away but within sight; the swim had gone according to plan. Before starting to travel again, Coda stood still for a moment, enjoying the warmth of sunshine on her pale coat. As she shook off the saltwater from her coat and began to walk at a diagonal to both approach the river and head inland, though, something gave her pause. It wasn't a sign of a predator, though that fear still seized her heart and tried to tug her back to the Cove with every step.

It was the scent of other horses.

Sudden hope blazed to life within the grey mare, and she broke into a swift trot, following the scent. She didn't know what she was hoping for if she found them - in fact, some part of her brain was acutely aware that they might be unwelcoming and drive her away, or that the stallion might be far harsher than Solomon had been - but for some reason, the need to find someone outweighed her fears. She sought them anyway, almost but thankfully not quite forgetting to always keep the river in sight. "Hello?" she called out, forgetting her fears of being caught, either by Solomon or a predator. Those precautions had abandoned her in her excitement. "Hello, is anyone here?"
