She had certainly not expected those words to come out of Noctis' mouth. Her eyes widened and she snapped her gaze back around to the writhing snakes on the cave floor. "Making...babies?" Then she let out a harsh snort before she started laughing and shaking her head. "No, that's not how it happens, silly. They're clearly out for blood. I think you're a little confused." She continued to shake her head and turned to look at Noctis with amusement. He couldn't be serious. That didn't look anything like what the snakes were up to. Sure, she'd never actually seen the act of making a baby, but she definitely knew that's not what the snakes were doing. But as she watched Noctis, her face sobered and she caught a whiff of the next scent in the air. Fear. He was....afraid. And not just a little scared. He was slowly falling apart. Why? She didn't understand at all. She turned back to look at the snakes then back to him, tilting her head as her ears flicked back and forth. "Hey, Noctis, it's okay. No need to worry. They won't hurt you, promise." She heard his words, saying snakes are bad and saw him trembling. Then he started to explain, saying a giant snake attacked him and his mother fended it off but that it could be here. She was about to tell him she'd never seen a giant snake when she came here but something about the fear in his eyes softened her resolve and she let out a breath. He went on, saying the big snake could eat her and she would have laughed at the idea but she could see that she needed to get Noctis away from here. He was going to hurt himself if he kept pushing back on that tree. "Okay, okay. We'll go." She said at her best try for reassurance, nudging his shoulder lightly before she turned away from the cave. She made sure he was coming before she glanced back once more over her shoulder with a small sigh. She'd probably be back to watch the snakes but she wouldn't bring Noctis here anymore. She would protect him the best way she could. She glanced toward Noctis' hind end as they started to move, her nostrils wrinkling. "Are you bleeding? Let's go to the water so you can clean up." Her voice was still soft, meant to be soothing as she tried to clear the tension. Maybe once they got far enough away from the cave, he would calm down and they could go back to exploring and playing. She certainly didn't want to let one bad experience ruin the day.
