speak to me, speak to me

and from the dark into the light
i saw a stone burst into life

and in the corner of your eye i saw a dream that never died

Down the mountain, across the sea, and deep into the Forest Kolfinna followed her Sisters. She did not have battle in her bones, the way some among her number did. The brindled grey was an enigmatic soul, a dreamer and peacekeeper. But she would not forsake her own in their time of need. The words of their Codebreaker stirred up strength and courage within the quiet grey mare, flaring like a fire within her. It would be enough to sustain her for the trials to come. And so, nervous energy prickling at her skin alongside the drying saltwater from the ocean, Kolfinna followed after Macabre and Bozena, keeping close to Wasp. If it came to it, Kolfinna would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the bay warrior-mare, just as the black and chestnut mare ahead of them did.

The Forest was in turmoil, and in the chaos, Kolfinna was separated from the others, forced to snap her teeth to ward off some pretentious stallion whose attention was drawn from the grey mare by some other more intriguing target. Hesitating for a moment, unsure whether or not she should pursue, Kolfinna raised her muzzle sharply, inky ears flicking forward as she glimpsed the figures of Macabre and Bozena moving through the trees, a stallion closing in on them.

With a shrill squeal of fury, Kolfinna made as if to follow, but her heart drew her away of its own accord. Wasp, she needed to find Wasp first, and then together, they would reunite with the others, and fight together as one. “Wasp, Wasp, where are you?” Kolfinna cried above the clamor of the clearing of fighting figures, some in pairs, others clustering and clashing in groups. Tossing her black mane from her eyes, Kolfinna scanned the battleground, desperately searching for the familiar face of her friend. As soon as she caught sight of Wasp, she’d hasten to her side, before heading in the direction that she’d last seen Macabre and Bozena.
