CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

Weekly update

All

Now that we are in for the long haul, I thought it would be worth giving you all a weekly update on what the Regiment is up to during the virus.

RHQ

We are now all working from home with Zoom video calls every 2 days. Linda, the Chief Clerk, is going into HQ from 0900 – 1430 every day as she lives on-site. We get regular updates from HQ Inf about the Army support to the civil authorities. There are ongoing welfare cases but these are being handled under normal procedures.

1 FUSILIERS

The Bn are now deployed in Estonia. Although they have no C19 cases, they are confined to barracks. Over this week, they have been doing ground recces, they had a test “crash out” (Active Edge in BAOR terms) and are now on a NATO CPX today.

The OSG (Rear Party) back in Tidworth have 3 with C19 symptoms (down from 4). They have not yet been warned off by 20 Bde for CSF tasks so are doing what training they can in barracks. They are loaning a few B vehicles to a RIFLES Bn who are on call for CSF.

5 FUSILIERS

On 1 April, they assumed Head of Establishment of the Castle Armoury, Bury, so we are now in control with a Fusilier Flag now flying over the Armoury. There is some work to be done to bed us in there, but we now have the authority to do so.

The Bn have deployed 110 to Op TOSCA in Cyprus, including 19 from W Coy, Bury. (Sgt Maj Gilks will correct me if nec). A further 110 x 5 FUSILIERS have been mobilised for 6 months to support CSF and are on 5 days NTM from next week. They are assembling at Newcastle today. Capt Jack Dutney, Regt Adjt, is joining them as Coy 2IC. 20 x W Coy are part of this mobilisation, so the Armoury will be empty for the next few months.

The MUSEUM

Fizz, the Museum receptionist, contracted C19 about 9 days ago. She was pretty rough but is now pulling out of it. Chairman and Trustees have been in touch with her, but if you know her and have her number, I’m sure she would appreciate a call.

The Museum is closed but there is a rota of one staff to go in every day to keep an eye on things. Col Gorski is holding a weekly Zoom call to maintain contact with the Museum team.

I’ll send an update out every week – some will be thinner than others.

Regards,

Algy
