Love in a lifetime of war. Posted on April 4, 2020 at 00:39:47 AM by VERCINGETORIX
In the cold of winter, it seemed as though the world was flush with life. Here and there flittered small birds, pecking at branches, and even closer still there were horses, sprinkled throughout the store as confetti on a cake.
He is happy to watch, walking as he was, through the snow and quietly keeping to himself.
Once upon a time ago, he would strike out into the wilds and find himself companions, whether they were lovers or friends, enemies or competitors, he had been an adventurous creature. Age, it seemed, had washed him of that tendency, and almost subconsciously he twists his neck, pressing his dark lips against his red shoulder and rubbing his skin, remembering an injury from a long time ago.
Lost in thought, he almost missed the blue child as she all but careens into him. Deftly, he steps to the side and turns towards her, scooting his hips away from her and thinking to flee the scene. With one side of his face turned towards her, he watches as she apologizes and seems to shy away. She is young, but already she is larger than him, yet oddly intimidated by his quiet presence.
pondering for a moment, he tries to excuse her. “It is-” but they are interrupted by a bewildered young woman, staring at the blue child as though she was a gift from god. This, he finds intriguing- as she cites a god that he is unfamiliar with, and instead of excusing them for interrupting them, or simply turning on his way and disappearing into the snow, Vercingetorix wrinkles his brow in thought, and tries again. “Or perhaps Aegir has had his hands on these islands once more.”
They will not know, he thinks to himself, but he does not mind at all. It seems patience had eventually swept over him, as he passed on in his years.
