The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

She catches only the seldom glimmer of light in the reflection of his eyes as this stranger coils within the shadows. He seems reluctant to interact with her, perhaps not prepared for the possibility of her presence within such a foreboding atmosphere. And yet here is where she has found some semblance of belonging. Where she had originally thought to run to the woodland it is here within the dank recesses of the earth that she finds true comfort.

But perhaps that was just the lingering effects of finding the other just a short time prior to this one’s interruption.

No matter the reason she now finds herself emotionally, spiritually, and mentally tied to this cavernous system.

His dusky tones conceal him until he suddenly decides to edge forward, his gray-streaked face now prevalent amid the darkness. For the first time she gets a true look at him. Striking cardinal eyes peer out at her, though he makes no move to step any further. He only offers his words.

“A ghost…” she pauses mid-thought. “In some ways that’s true.” She is composed of many ghosts of her past, some more memorable and others locked so far away she isn’t aware that she has them. For each life she has lived and passed on from there is a spirit that remains, keeping the memories alive. How right this stranger is.

She turns to fully face him now, craning her neck upward to continue the conversation. “Be I fearsome or not. Do you let this potential fear control you?” her sonorous voice rings throughout the tunnels.
