The question of choice raised by the baroque buckskin mare was offered too late. She had already insisted she join her in the Cove rather than politely offer the option, and almost as quickly as she rephrased it, she spat another declaration in response to Bahadir that she did not intend to give her a choice. Nekharat flicked her ears backward and stamped her hoof, tired of this poorly played game.
Still, the red mare does not relent despite the buckskin’s incessant nudging. Clearly she wanted to leave this place and these others at once, since the longer they lingered the worse it was getting for her. The arrival of the Peak mare, Amduat, with her declarative statement that she was owed the freedom of choice at last tipped the scales back in her favor.
With a deep breath, the Akhal-Teke mare considered if her freedom had ever truly been taken away. Even if there weren’t now two others who would enforce her decision, would she really have lost the privilege to make her own choices? What punishment would the baroque buckskin mare have inflicted if she said no? She claimed she chose Nekharat because she seemed strong, and that alone should have been a logical enough reason not to attempt stripping her freedom of choice from her. More than likely, she was lying and there was a different reason. However, this was not the moment to pry further.
She looked to the mare the others deemed so full of hate, then to the desert stallion Bahadir and finally to Amduat.
“I choose none of you,” she stated matter-of-factly. “Though I suspect we will all meet again,” she finished, before turning and leaving them all behind.
