bite me claim

He hadn't planned on coming back to the Common, not for a while at least. He still had to figure out if Primrose was free and he needed to meet the young challenger who called him out for the Desert. He shook his head at the very thought. A damn two year old was challenging him. Had the rumors spread like wildfire about his two losses and now he was easy game on the islands? Did they think him that much of a pushover? He snorted, pawing at the dirt beneath his hooves as he took out his frustration. He would have his comeback. He would show all of them that fire still ran in his veins and blood was meant to be on his tongue. He fought for good reason now when he picked a fight. He fought for his family, his herd, his mares. They deserved his protection. They deserved a fierce lead stallion who could drive off intruders without a second thought.

He wanted so badly to be worthy of them. He came to the free lands more and more though, clearing his head of all the doubt. Having another stallion around was proving to be good so far. In fact, it was Crow who let him know there was an intruder nearby. Maybe the other stallion was older and maybe he couldn't fight much anymore but his set of eyes was proving to work well enough. Cain caught a whiff of his scent in the Common as well so maybe his herd would be growing soon after all. There was a time when Cain would have been greedy and wanted all the mares in the Desert as his own and no one else's, but now he was much more mild mannered. He had a growing family and sons and a daughter that made him proud. He had more unborn children on the way this spring. He couldn't wait to meet them.

Numbers were no longer important to him. If Crow wanted to meet mares and bring them home to Salem, he would welcome them and respect them. He would fight for them just as he fought for his own but he would know who claimed them. This was all going to be new for him, having another stallion and mares he didn't know, at least at first, but he was sure between Crow and himself, they would figure it out. As the tobiano stallion moved through the thick grass, he felt the chilly breeze and gave a shiver. The water still clung to his coat from his swim to the Common but he ambled forward, wondering if he might meet someone. That's when he saw the red mare grazing like she might die if she didn't get one more bite. Intrigued, he let out a low nicker to announce his presence and stopped a few feet away to give her space as he reached out his muzzle.

"Hello. Do you need anything?" His dark eyes watched her carefully and he shook out his mane before continuing. "I only ask because you're on the part of the island that's known for force claims. I'd hate to see you forced to go somewhere you don't want to go." His ears flicked back and forth as he waited on her response, his tail swishing at his flanks. He kept his body language neutral, though he was alert, ever watchful for other horses.
