give a little, get a lot
Nadja was glad to hear that Shaydowfax had intended on bringing the blue mare with her back to her home, and she had not assumed incorrectly. She didn’t know what to expect of the Cove, or the other horses that lived there, but it seemed irrelevant. She was being offered protection, and a place on the Islands meant she wouldn’t have to keep moving and running from her sorrows from the mainland. It might be a while before any place felt like ‘home’, but it was a start.
“We can leave now,” she said in answer to Shaydowfax’s question. She felt fairly rested, or as rested as one could feel after one nap. It would take a few days before she felt put together again enough for her energy to return. She could weather out those few days in the Cove, hopefully with the company of Shaydowfax.
“Is it far?” she asked, stepping out of the shade of the trees, but then turning back to the other mare. She didn’t actually know where she was going.
