My earliest date was February 17, 1971 near Cambridge Ontario. It was wandering around in the snow beside the obvious hole. One hopes it returned to hibernation. My first this year was April 17, Hwy 11 south of Orillia. One sees fewer Groundhogs now because of the omnipresent Coyotes. They are much less visible in the fall because they are well fed and can remain in their burrows.
