bite me

He didn't expect another horse, especially another mare, to approach but it was a pleasant enough surprise, one ear flicking toward the silver grulla mare as she came closer. She seemed mostly curious of the exchange, though she seemed more wary than the first mare he approached. She probably knew more about the islands and the dangers they could throw at you, especially here in the Common. Cain knew well of the approach of most stallions, a force claim here and a bite there, then just drive your "prize" on home. It felt like another lifetime now but that used to be him. When he first came to the islands, he had spent four years in human captivity so he knew nothing of being a stallion in the wild. He thought he needed to take what he wanted and not let anything get in his way, the will of others included.

It took time and more than a few good mares to teach him that was not the right way. He knew if he left, there would be plenty of stallions ready to jump in and claim the mare he approached. When he caught a whiff of the second mare, he noticed that she didn't have a herd scent either so she was in just as much danger. He could offer them a home and they could take it or leave. Then he could escort them out of the Common if they weren't looking to be claimed. The first mare might not know that's where she's at but he had a hunch the second mare knew exactly what these lands were known for. When the silver mare greeted them, Cain dipped his head and offered a low nicker. She explained that she was new as well and introduced herself as Cerosi. "A please to meet you, Cerosi." He said before reaching his own muzzle out out just enough to exchange scents. He didn't want her thinking he would try to sneak a claiming nip in there so he was sure to keep his teeth well covered.

The black arabian mare seemed curious enough of him, taking in his much larger form. His winter coat wasn't much of one, having adapted to the warmer climate of Salem. The winters weren't much different from the summers there. His brown eyes watched the two mares with open curiosity himself until the black mare spoke. She gave her name as Nasa and he smiled and dipped his head. "And a pleasure to meet you as well, Nasa." Her voice was soft and he wondered if she was shy by nature. Suddenly the mare chuckled and asked if they were the welcoming committee. The draft's own lips let out a chuckle as well before he pricked his ears and smirked. "I guess you could say that. You don't usually stay alone long in the Common. I'm afraid you've wandered in the place where stallions are known to claim mares and drive them to their new home. If you're not looking for that, I can offer to escort you to the Meadow or Falls where claiming is looked down on. Of course, if you're in need of a home and don't mind the heat, my herd in the desert is welcome to you."

His gaze swept back to Cerosi. "That offer extends to you as well."
