Veles

As Veles had grown blind, she had stopped relying on sight to interpret feelings and began to listen to the tones in which others spoke. As Gnome talked, the little mare picked up on both worry and a sense of comfortability in the way she spoke of her gods. She could see why he would think she was sacrificed, and in a way she was. But not to gain anything, but to set her free from the disability she had. A gift to her, as she would not be able to provide as she should.

“Do not fret.” she said, trying to reassure the stallion. “My family only wished to give me to the gods so that I may be free of this disability. Not as punishment, or any sort of gain for them.” Veles did not know if her words would sooth him or further disturb him, but she offered a smile in hopes to quell any misgivings he had about what she had said. It was in her past anyways, and if he knew nothing of her gods, then she would not have to worry about it happening again and neither would he.

But what Veles did worry about, was being left alone. Gnome’s offer that she could come and go as she pleased would be soothing to others, but it made a twist of anxiety curl it’s fist in her gut. The little mare did not want to seem overly clinging, but in a new place and not knowing anyone else, every part of her wanting to cling to the stallion for safety. But she would not, could not, be that smothering. “I am sure that I will be perfectly happy with you, Gnome.” she replied. “You have already been kinder to me than those of my homeland. But I do hope that you don’t mind me staying close by your side. I do not mind traveling. In fact, this adventure has been rather exhilarating. But until I am better acquainted with this territory and hopefully other herd members, I request that I not be left alone.”

All her life, Veles had been taught not to be a burden. The words that she spoke were in the politest fashion that she could think of, but it still made her heart speed up, thinking she had done her stallion wrong by making such a request. To burden him with her problems. She opened her mouth to take it back, but paused, closing her lips again as she waited anxiously for his reply instead.
